Mr. Idriss Yahya, the Jaman North district Officer of Veterinary Services in the Bono region, has asked the general public to be concerned about the health of their domestic animals, particularly dogs, in order to avoid rabies disease infections, which can result in death of an infected animal or human who is infected by the rabies virus through a rabid dog or animal bite.
He explained that once the signs and symptoms of rabies are seen on the affected animal or human, there is no cure; therefore, it is critical to ensure that our dogs and cats are vaccinated on a regular basis to protect our health and the general public.
He claims that rabies is a deadly but preventable disease because infected animals can easily transmit the infection to humans, killing both the affected person and the animal.
Mr. Idriss Yahya discussed some of the signs and symptoms of rabies in animals and humans, stating that affected dogs may become restless, irritable, and even aggressive.
Also, even if the dogs are normally friendly and happy, they may suddenly change their behavior and chase or bite other animals, humans, and even inanimate objects such as wood, metal, and so on.
Other rabies symptoms in animals include difficulty swallowing, excessive drooling, staggering, seizures, and paralysis.
As the virus progresses, your dog may appear to be overstimulated, with unnecessary movements and sounds having a negative effect. They may hide in a dark, quiet place or act aggressively.
