The upgraded GH1 coin is bimetallic, with an outer gold and an inner silver layer.

The coin has a pronounced rough edge and a latent image that appears in a rectangular form below the Scale of Justice on the back.

When tilted, the latent image transforms from a radiating star to a One Ghana cedi symbol sandwiched between two stars.
