The Okada Riders Association has advised members to abide by road traffic regulations to help minimize road crashes.
The General Secretary of the Association, Majid Adamu, stated that some members are indisciplined, and keep jumping the red light, a situation that endangers the lives of the public and the riders themselves, he added.
He stated that the Association is working with the Ghana Police Service to reduce road accidents involving Okada riders.
He praised the Inspector General of Police, Dr. Akuffo Dampare, saying, “the new IGP we have in Ghana today is unrivalled. His level of participation is unprecedented. He is effective. We are working hard to reduce traffic accidents. We are collaborating with the police and other stakeholders to achieve these goals”.
Majid Adamu said they have consistently advised riders not to breach the traffic regulations since that could create serious problems for everyone.
”Road accidents can cause a rider to lose a leg, a hand, or even die. That is what we have always told them. We expect them to be responsible riders. Some are irresponsible and engage in lawless activities, but we are hopeful ro minimize these issues.”
