The Mobile Phone Dealers Association of Ghana has accused the Accra Central Regional Police Command of unprofessional conduct.

The Association says the Command held a member who is a phone dealer in custody without bail against the rules of natural justice.

Mr. Appiah, the Association’s Deputy Organizer who also serves as the Deputy Organizer for the National Union of Traders, revealed that the phone dealer was arrested and detained for the sale of a camera to a customer.

He described the incident on Nyankonton Mu Nsem on Rainbow Radio 87.5Fm, revealing that a customer came to the member’s shop and purchased a camera and lens.

He explained that the customer called the shop owner and the price of the camera, which did not include a lens, was revealed to him [the buyer].

He [Buyer] asked for a lense and was told it would be an additional cost, to which he agreed and came to the shop to purchase the items.

He [buyer] later returned to the shop, demanding a refund because he was dissatisfied with the camera and lens that had been sold to him.

The shop owner informed him that the goods sold were not returnable and that if there was a problem, it could be resolved or the items replaced if he had any.

But he refused and summoned some motor riders, who stormed the shop and destroyed some of its contents.

Later, the police were called, and they arrived on the scene, entered the shop, and ordered everyone to leave.

According to the organizer, the motor rider was also accompanied by a team from the Accra Central Regional Command, despite the fact that a team from the Tesano Police Station had arrived and the matter was under their jurisdiction.

According to him, the case was later transferred to Accra Central, where the shop owner was asked to admit to repaying the money to the customer.

He refused because he did not believe it was appropriate.

“Following that, the Police refused him bail and instead granted bail to the customer on the grounds that he was associated with Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia,” the statement said.

He further alleged that when the shop owner was narrating his side of the story, the Police officer who was writing his statement was capturing something different.

”This forced us to request for the Police to allow him to write his own statement,” he added.
