Parliament has found Assin Central MP, Kennedy Agyapong has been reprimanded after he was found guilty of contempt for describing the House as ‘’USELESS’’ and ‘’CHEAP’’.
The House approved the report by the Privileges Committee today [Thursday], which suggested for either a reprimand, or suspension after the committee found him guilty after it’s sitting last year.
Parliament’s Privileges Committee suggested to the House to either suspend or rebuke Member of Parliament for Assin Central, Kennedy Agyapong for insulting Parliament.
The privileges committee in 2018 investigated Mr.Agyapong after he reportedly described Parliament as ‘’USELESS’’, and hurled insults directly at the Majority leader, Osie Kyei Mensah -Bonsu.
The investigation was done following a motion field by Minority Chief Whip, Muntaka Mubarak.
Kennedy Agyapong subsequently described Muntaka Mubarak as ‘’DUMB’’ for referring him [Agyapong] for filing the contempt case against him.
The committee’s report said it did not consider expulsion as a punishment for Kennedy Agyapong because of the apology but said the committee was however in favour of either a reprimand or a suspension after extensive deliberations.
The report said there was a split ballot when a vote was cast as to whether the MP should be reprimanded or suspended.
In view of the split ballot, the committee recommends to the House to determine which of the two sanctions to be imposed.
