The Paramount Chief of the Kusagu Traditional Area Zug-Raan Naba Abugrago Asigri Azoka II and the People of Kusagu have celebrated the Samanpiid Festival.

The Samanpiid festival which is celebrated annually, is a traditional post-harvest thanksgiving event meant to thank God and the ancestral spirits for a successful farming season.

It is also an occasion to discuss other social and development issues affecting them.

The theme for this year’s 31st annual Samanpiid Festival was “Harnessing the potentials of the people of Kusagu for the development of the area”.

The Zug-Raan Naba Abugrago Asigri Azoka II, expressed his gratitude to all those who contributed immensely towards the restoration of the peace in Bawku, the government of both NPP and NDC made effective intervention, the Security Agencies sacrificed their time and angry planning and running round chasing law breakers and also we thank the Bawku Inter Ethnic Peace Committee (BIEPC), he said.

Naba Abugrago Asigri Azoka II appealed to all sons and daughters of Kusagu not to allow partisan politics to divide them as a people.

He also thanked the NPP government led by His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo for the several important policies put in place for the development of Ghanaians in general and the people of Bawku Traditional Area in particular.

The Zug-Raan Naba Abugrago Asigri Azoka II commended the government for implemting the Planting for food and jobs, the One village one dam, the One constituency one ambulance and the construction of the major bridge – Kulungugu and Tamne bridge.

The Paramount Chief also appealed to the NPP government to speed up the Bolgatanga -Bawku -Pulimakom highway in the ensuing year, the Tamne Irrigation project and the Eastern Corridor road.

The Upper East Regional Minister Hon. Paulina Abayage asked the traditional authorities to re -dedicate themselves to the cause of the people by ensuring a peaceful and united atmosphere for speedy development.

She stated that, development of the area could rescue the people from poverty,ignorance and diseases that have plagued them as a result of conflicts and mistrust between leaders and their subjects.

She appealed to the chiefs and the good people to support government interventions meant to develop the area.

The Regional Minister also assured the Zug-Raan Naba, that the NPP government led by Nana Addo is a listening government, so very soon the contractor working on Bolgatanga – Bawku – Pulimakom road will come back to complete it.

She said the celebration of the festival is a testimony of the prevailing unity and peace in a hitherto conflict- prone area which should be maintained to promote wealth creation for the welfare of the people.

Madam Paulina Abayage also thanked the Bawku Naba Abugrago Asigri Azoka II, for using his Endowment Fund to support needy but brilliant students and the good people of Kusagu.
