The Commanding Officer of Parliament Protection Unit, Superintendent Freeman Tetteh has said the attempt by man arrested for attempting to commit suicide in the public gallery is a security breach.
Briefing the parliamentary press corps he said the attention of the police was drawn over the matter and the man was subsequently arrested and transferred to the Ministry Police Station for further interrogation.
Superintendent Tetteh said the ‘’suspect’’ told the police he was in the House to see his Member of Parliament for Kwesimintsim, Mr. Joseph Mensah.
The Commanding Officer describing the incident as a criminal matter said, it would be difficult to go into details but stressed further investigations would be carried out by the Ministry Police Station.
The 35-year-old man, identified as Kojo Mensah was arrested after he entered the public gallery with a rope which he tied around a chair and with one leg over threatening to jump from the first floor to his death.
He is said to be from Kwesimintim in the Western Region.
Superintendent Tetteh said the incident will not change the security arrangement in Parliament because the team in the House ”is solid”.
The 35-year-old man was clad in the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) attire with the photo of the MP embossed on the t-shirt.
