Awutu Breku residents disappointed in ongoing Limited Registration exercise

Tension is looming at the Awutu Bereku Electoral Commission (EC) registration center as people from different places in the constituency who arrived at the registration center since morning has not been registered.

People from places like Awutu Bawjiase, Senya Bereku and the rest have expressed disappointment in the ongoing exercise.

Rainbow news Nana Yaw Asare in an interview with some of the people said they were unhappy and have called on the EC to address the challenges with immediate effect.

Meanwhile the NDC’s representative Mr. Yaw Osei has .alsoexpressed hiss grievances by saying that only 23 people have been able to register since morning.

The situation was similar in other areas across the country.

In some parts of the Northern Region, there have been reports of network challenges at some registration centers.

As at 11 am on Monday, no card had been issued at the Centre in the Sagnarigu District.

Hundreds of people who thronged the place to get their cards were left stranded.

The Limited Voters’ Registration took
off today (Monday), June 17, 2019.

The exercise is expected to end on Sunday, July 7, 2019.

“The Electoral Commission announces for the information of the general public that the Limited Voters Registration Exercise will now take place from Monday, 17th June 2019 to Sunday, 7th July 2019,” a statement signed by the Chairperson for the EC, Jean Mensah said.

The limited voters’ registration was initially scheduled to begin on June 7 and end on June 27 but was stalled due to a court case by a Ghanaian citizen.

The Supreme Court later struck out the case paving way for the EC to go ahead with the registration.
