The Chinese Embassy through its Education Support Program has donated assorted educational materials to the Starlight Academy in the Eastern Region.
The educational materials donated include 10 printers, 10 computers and accessories, 20 footballs, 20 basketballs, and 300 sets of writing case.
Speaking at a short ceremony held on Friday November 30, 2018 to hand over the materials to the school, the Deputy Chief of Mission of the Chinese Embassy in Ghana, Mr Zhu Jing, underscored the need for a strong foundation for children at the basic level since they will be future leaders.
He expressed his pleasure and said, he was extremely impressed at the teaching and learning environment he saw at the school.
Quoting a Chinese proverb, the Diplomat said ‘’if the youth are strong, the country will always be strong’’.
According to him, education is important hence the need for every country to invest heavily educating their citizens especially the youth and children.
‘’The kids stand for the future of any country,’’ he said.
He said, children are the star of tomorrow adding, you [referring to the pupils at the school] are the star for tomorrow for Ghana.’’
Children in China he noted are valuable assets for the country and they study hard, aim high and are the valuable source of China. And so I will encourage you to also aim high, study hard and make your nation proud.
Director of Starlight Academy, Emmanuel Attafuah-Danso who is also the Director of International Relation for the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), said the determination generosity of the People’s Republic of China to support the government of Africa in the area of education has been encouraging and tremendous.
He said, ‘’today we are gathered here because Starlight Academy and this community are benefiting from the love and generosity of the Chinese.’’
He added ‘’the education of our children is very central to the development of our country [Ghana]. We all owe it a duty to this call to ensure a smooth educational background our children.’’
The school he explained forms part of his contribution towards the agenda of providing children a solid foundation for a better future.
’’The Starlight Academy is my little contribution as a Director of this school,’’ he added.
He disclosed that the condition under which he studied in the community was not the best hence his desire to make education better and easier for the current generation.
On her part, the Queen mother of Akyem Kyia, Nana Ntiamoah Boadiwaa III, extended gratitude to Mr Attafuah-Danso for his contribution towards quality education in the community.
She also commended him for lobbying to get the Chinese government to support education in the area.
The traditional ruler was happy at the success stories chalked by the school and has admonished parents to invest in the education of their wards to help raise generational thinkers who will also help the community transform.
She further asked parents to continue to pray for the Director of the school and the entire staff to continue doing their best in education their wards.
Other dignitaries graced the ceremony including the Chief of the area, Nana Amanie Ankrah II, the clergy of the area, representatives from the District Education Office, the Parent Teacher Association among others.
