Chairperson of the Electoral Commission of Ghana, Mrs Jean Mensa, has challenged all political parties to disband all existing vigilante groups.
Appearing before the Commission of Inquiry probing the shooting incident that marred the Ayawaso West Wuogon by-election on Friday, she said, the EC has learnt vital lessons on security going into the 2020 general elections.
The EC she said would collaborate with the security agencies and provide them with the flash points early on so they take adequate measures but “it is also important for the parties to disband their vigilante groups. If you look at what happened at the polling station, it was not anything that had to do with our officers; they were conducting themselves very well . . . so we need to call on our parties to do away with the vigilantes.”
