MIDLAND ASSAULT CASE: Discharging policeman case of collusion; we’II petition AG immediately-Lawyer

Lawyer Samson Lardi Anyenini, counsel for the woman who as assaulted by Lance Corporal Godzi, Patience Osafo, has expressed shock at the decision by an Accra High Court to discharge the accused.

The lawyer said his client is currently distraught about the news that, policeman has been discharged due to lack of interest.

According to him, the client is extremely disappointed.

An Accra Circuit Court has discharged Lance Corporal Godzi Fredrick Amanor, the police officer who was exposed in a video assaulting, kicking and slapping a customer of Midland Savings and Loans Limited at the Shiashie branch.

He was discharged with three other accused persons for lack of interest on the part of the victim.

Reports indicate that the victim failed to appear in court and also avail herself to assist police with investigation.

But the lawyer says the ”police told lies, pure lies about Patience Osafo to get the policeman who assaulted and battered the lady.”

He disclosed at his client was called just once by the prosecutor when she was in Madina.

‘’At the time, she was attending to her sick sister, to appear in court the next day. She told the prosecutor about her challenge but this where we are.’’

The lawyer hinted of plans to petition the Attorney General over the matter.

”We are disappointed by the turn of events. We are writing a petition to the Attorney General immediately to take the case away from the police prosecutor and have a state attorney  lead this. Without any doubt, and with a lack of available information to   the contrary, there has been a case of collusion.”
