Founder of the Uinted Front Party (UFP), Agyenim Boateng, is alleging that, majority of the persons who stormed the residence of Dela Brempong, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate for the Ayawaso West Wuogon by-election are not national security operatives but ex-convicts, murderers, hardened criminals and persons with bad criminal records.
Speaking to Kwabena Agyapong on Frontline on Rainbow Radio 87.5Fm, the politician who is popularly referred to as Gyataba said, Ghana may soon witness a civil war if we fail to deal the existence of vigilante groups.
‘’Majority of the members of the vigilante groups are murderers, ex-convicts and hardened criminals. That is why they were asked to wear masks before storming the residence of the NDC parliamentary candidate in Ayawaso West Wuogon constituency during the by-election. I know some of them, they have bad criminal record, some of them have their hands stained with blood,’’ he said.
The masked men he decried are untrained persons who have been rewarded because their government is in power.
He challenged the ruling government to disband all these vigilante groups, stop interfering with the work of the security agencies to enable them work efficiently.
The security services in the country he lamented have become a remote control for persons who lacks the capacity on security related matters and management of the state.
Gyataba said Ghanaians have entertained such lawless acts for far too long hence the impudence by these lawless hoodlums.
He called for the decentralization of our security agencies in order to prevent all these lawlessness and political interference.
He took a swipe at Bryan Acheampong, the National Security Minister for justifying the deployment of the hooded men.
To him, the minister has no shame, and has called on him to resign honourably over the shooting incident.
He said, ‘’If I were to be the president, I would have sacked Bryan Acheampong and prosecuted him for what he did.
