I would have apologised to Prez, Family, Ghanaians if I took a bribe in Anas video-Bissue

A Presidential Staffer, Mr Charles Cromwell Nanabanyin Onuawonto Bissue, who has been accused of working against the country’s efforts to end illegal mining, has insisted he did no wrong nor did he accept a bribe to influence his work as portrayed in the video by Anas Aremeyaw Anas.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with Kwabena Agyapong on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM, Mr Bissue said he would have apologised to President Akufo-Addo, his family and Ghanaians, if he abused his office as alleged by the Tiger Eye P.I team.

‘’I have not accepted a bribe to influence my work. If I had done that, I would have apologised to President Akufo-Addo, my family and Ghanaians. Nothing of that sought happened and I have communicated that with the Criminal Investigations Department (CID),’’ he added.

He told the host as a law abiding citizen, he has subjected himself to the law and the state and was hopeful he would be vindicated after the CID is done with its probe.

‘’There would be a proper probe into the matter and that is why I have submitted myself before the state. I would not talk much because I want the CID to probe the matter and at the right time, I will talk.’’

When asked if the expose has affected him in anyway, the presidential staffer said, ‘’I am still strong; it has not affected me in any way,’’ he noted.

He however revealed his 84-year-old mother became worried after she saw the expose but ‘’she told me she trusted me and was optimistic I would be vindicated after the expose.’’

In a documentary produced by investigative journalist, Mr Anas Aremeyaw Anas, Mr Bissue, who is also the Secretary to the Inter-Ministerial Committee on Illegal Mining (IMCIM), was seen on video taking money to allegedly facilitate for an unlicensed company seeking to circumvent laid-down processes to be given clearance for its mining operations.

But Mr Bissue has rubbished the claims adding, I will  reiterate that in the course of my duty as the Secretary to the IMCIM, I have never received any money as consideration to render a service as a public officer,” he stated.

He expressed his appreciation for the “solidarity demonstrated by friends and acquaintances from all walks of life who believe in my integrity and can attest to my values and principles”.
