General Nunoo-Mensah threatens to sue NPP& NDC for forming vigilante groups Featured

Written by  Sep 07, 2018
A former Chief of Defense Staff, Brig. General Nunoo-Mensah, has threatened to drag the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) and opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) over the existence and formation of vigilante groups in their respective parties. The 1992 constitution he said does not support the formation of such unlawful groups hence his decision to head to the apex court to seek for interpretation. Ghana he lamented is waiting to explode due to the existence of these groups financed and supported by political parties and their leaders. He was reacting to the outdooring of new vigilante groups by the NDC few days ago including the Hawks. In an interview with Frontline host, Kwame Tutu on Rainbow Radio 87.5Fm said, it is not lawful to form a private army. I am sad because we are getting more learned people but the more learned we get, the more we do things like unlearned people. What is going on is bad and yet we lack the courage to criticise it. I don’t know what is going and yet we have refused to talk. I don’t understand what the hell is going on and President Akufo-Addo who is a lawyer has refused to talk.’’ He has predicted of a possible replication of Nigeria’s ‘Boko Haram’ in Ghana if we refuse to disband these groups adding, these members of the groups are common criminals and they are given forced hope of jobs that are not available.’’ ‘’The two parties NDC and NPP are destroying Ghana and instead of NDC condemning the act, they have formed vigilante groups. I fear for Ghana. The formation of vigilante groups is unlawful and so I am going to challenge the government and other parties with vigilante groups. I will go to the Supreme Court and seek for interpretation on whether it’s lawful to form a private army. If we refuse to tackle the issue, we will regret the outcome,’’ he warned. Mr Nunoo-Mensah challenged Ghanaians who are patriotic to rise-up and save Ghana. ‘’We need a third force to save Ghana. We need wise men that are ready to save Ghana from the hands of the unwise that are bent on destroying this country. We have educated men and yet we cannot even harvest cassava and eat in our own country,’’ he added.
