Former President John Dramani Mahama has slammed President Nana Akufo-Addo over what he has described as nepotism under his administration.
Mr Mahama says the unnecessary attacks directed at him by the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), when he was president is now haunting them.
The current president he indicated has surrounded himself with family, friends and cronies in an unprecedented level despite speaking against same during his [Mahama] tenure.
‘’I think it is important to be careful what you say because tomorrow it will come to haunt you and that is exactly what is haunting them.’’
Mr Mahama said, I was accused of family and friends ‘’when it wasn’t true. Now today, family and friends everywhere and when you raise it, they say it doesn’t matter if it is the president’s relative. It depends whether they are qualified. Who doesn’t have qualified relatives? I have degree holders and PhD holders in my family and that is what I said in government. If it was getting qualified relatives, I have plenty.’’
He also took on government and questioned the silence of civil society groups on development of the country under the NPP.
‘’When you appoint and we say they are too many they say it is not about the quantity but the quality. So who is judging the quality? You [NPP]? It is not good for our corporate governance because you change the rules depending on who is in power. Ghana belongs to all of us. Whoever is president, whoever forms government; we must hold them to the same standard of accountability; and civil society organisations have gone quite, moral society have gone quite,’’ he stated.
