Work on the six (6) uncompleted pedestrian bridges in Adenta will commence within a week, the Ministry of Roads and Highways has announced in a statement.
The Ministry as part of its temporarily measures, collaborated with the Interior Ministry and requested the Ghana Police Service to deploy officers of the Motor Traffic Unit to prevent further deaths.
The statement said, government regretted the deaths of residents who had been killed by speeding vehicles. The statement further said work had already been ongoing in recent weeks to address the situation and that procurement processes were now near completion.
This is coming few hours after angry residents blocked the Adenta Highway in protest of the increasing rate at which residents were being knocked down by speeding vehicles.
What infuriated the residents Wwasas the one which occurred on Thursday invoking a female student of the West African Senior High School.
The police fired rubber bullets and tear gas to disperse the angry residents who were demonstrating.
