One person died with 32 boats and outboard motors destroyed by tidal waves in the Central Region.
Mr Kofi Mensah a 52yrs old fisherman was killed by strong tidal waves that swept along the coastal lines in the Cape Coast Metropolitan Saturday 10 June 2017.
The waves also destroyed 16 fishing Canoes, nets, outboard motors and fishing equipment.
Mr Kwesi Baafi brother of the deceased whom confirmed the sad incident to the Rainbow Radio’s Central Regional Reporter Kwame Kakarba said, the incident happened around 3am on Saturday.
A similar situation happened at Ankaful,Kormantse, Anomanbo,Abandze and Nkansedo in the Mfantseman Municipality had their 16 canoes including nets and others fishing equipment destroyed following strong tidal waves.
When Rainbow Radio visited the scene at the beach, the canoes and nets scattered on the sea shore can't remove.
Another fisherman at the incident was reportedly injured while trying to save his fishing equipment but reported sent to Saltpond Municipal hospital for treated and discharged.
"We want fisheries ministry to insure our fishing equipment, this is not the first time tidal waves has destroyed our fishing equipment. The past and pervious governments have neglected the fishermen. We are tired of promises stated by central regional fishermen association''
The fishermen's appealed for the government to construct a breakwater along the beaches in the central region to protect canoes and fishing nets during the periodical strong winds and rain.
