Counsel for Black Stars captain Asamoah Gyan, lawyer Kissi Agyabeng has said that the Attorney General’s Department had dropped the rape and sodomy charges against the skipper.
Addressing the media on Tuesday, the lawyer said ‘’ordinarily, we would not have bothered to address the media. However, lives are involved and reputations have been affected. Right must be put right and wrong must be put in its place.”
One Sarah Kwablah in June 2015, accused Asamoah Gyan of sodomizing and raping her.
Sarah Kwablah lodged a complaint at the Domestic and Victims Support Unit (DOVVSU) of the Ghana Police Service in June 2015. She alleged that Asamoah Gyan raped and had unnatural canal knowledge with her.
The case was transferred to the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service) and later forwarded to the AG’s office
However addressing the media, lawyer Kissi Agyabeng described the allegations against his client as untrue, unfounded and frivolous.
According to the lawyer the skipper, Asamoah Gyan fully co-operated with the police during their investigations before the case was forwarded to the AG’s office and “on Wednesday, 2 December 2015, we were called to the headquarters of the Criminal Investigation Department, Accra and informed that after a careful study of the docket, the Attorney General had concluded that the rape and unnatural canal allegations made by Sarah Kwablah against Asamoah Gyan were totally baseless and that the docket should be closed. In plain language, Asamoah Gyan has been cleared of all of Sarah Kwablah’s allegations of rape and sodomy.’’
Lawyer Kissi Agyabeng chided lawyer Maurice Ampaw, counsel for Sarah Kwablah for going around peddling falsehood against Asamoah Gyan.
‘’Goaded on by a man who styles himself as a doctorate degree holder, this young woman has carried, and she [Kwablah] and the man are still carrying on, the most ludicrous media tirade against a person in Ghana, And the person at the end of their unhappy and totally unfounded tantrums has been, and his, Asamoah Gyan. His manager Samuel Anim Addo has gotten his unfair share of verbal abuse,’’ the lawyer noted.
He added ‘’I [Lawyer Agyabeng] have and still do get my share of the vituperations. However we regard that simply occupational hazard,’’ he explained.
