President of Peace Watch Ghana, Madam Diana Nyonkopa Daniels, has called on President Nana Akufo-Addo to wake up from his slumber following the recent insecurity and unprofessional conduct of some security officers.
She warned Ghanaians would soon become rebellious should we fail to deal with the growing attacks of citizens by security officers.
‘’President Akufo-Addo should wake-up from his slumber, the IGP, Interior Minister should also wake-up from their slumber because Ghana is sitting on time bomb waiting to explode. We voted for you [leaders] to come and manage the security situation and not go and sit in your offices and drive land cruisers.’’
Madam Daniels said majority of Ghanaians are without passports hence the need for the various security leaders to maintain law and order to prevent any uprising.
‘’You [leaders] have passports to travel out of Ghana but majority of Ghanaians, are without passports and so let us maintain law and order,’’ she added.
She recounted experiences where police officers demanded money from drivers because they accused them of road traffic offences.
The police uniform she said represents the authority of the president hence the need for citizens to respect police officers and in the same vein, the police should also respect citizens.
She encouraged police personnel to desist from abusing the rights of citizens because it is unlawful and a disgrace to the police.
She called on the IGP and his senior officers to put in measures to give the police a good name and deal with all unprofessional conducts on the part of some of the bad nuts.
Meanwhile, she has also indicated drivers have become rebellious because some unprofessional police officers demand money from them and when they refuse to pay, they waste their time.
