The Member of Parliament for Juaboso constituency, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, has sad the integrity of Parliament has been badly damaged following the decision to allow Assin Central MP, Kennedy Agyapong, go unpunished after he was found guilty of contempt of Parliament.
The MP after the house agreed to allow the MP ‘go and sin no more’ said he felt sad because Ghana’s democracy has been attacked.
The action taken he posted will serve as a bad precedence because it may prevent Parliament, from reprimanding or punishing persons who may insult or drag the name of the house in the mud.
He wondered why the house failed to punish the MP as recommended by the Privileges Committee that found him guilty of contempt after he described the House as a useless and cheap.
The MP said, this was reduced to an NPP, NDC matter but it is about Ghana, it is about dignity of parliament and the perception people have about the house. The committee recommended a suspension or reprimand but the Speaker failed to use any of the two. The House should have dealt with him in the same manner Black Rasta (a radio personality) was dealt with when he dragged the name of the House in the mud.”
