Director General for National Sports Authority (NSA), Professor Twumasi has blamed the unfortunate allegation of starving athletics at the ongoing Greater Accra Sports Games at the University of Ghana, Legon, to lack sponsorship package.
He argued that though there was room for improvement in terms of sponsorship, he should be commended for organising the event because it the past, the regional sports directorate couldn’t organize such a tournament.
‘Under MY able leadership, other sporting disciplines like hockey, volley ball, netball, skate soccer among others have been given the due recognition they deserve,’ he added.
Speaking to Isaac Wallayo Wallace on Rainbow Radio 87.5 FM, Professor Twumesi stated that through this tournament, athletics of various disciplines have gotten the opportunity to showcase their talents so in future the nation could benefit from this athletics representing Ghana at the world stage.
‘Sports is business, I humbly appeal to corperate Ghana, private businesses, churches to come out and help develop athletics and sports in general in order for us to produce the likes of Ursain Bolt, Asamoah Gyan, Dede Ayew among others. This will go a long way to affect the nation positively,’he added.
Touching on the budget of the Black Stars for the 2019 AFCON tournament which has delayed, he admonished Ghanaians to exercise patience because government was on course to work on that.
He concluded by calling on Ghanaians to support the Black Stars of Ghana to become the ultimate winners of the upcoming African Cup of Nation in Egypt.
