The Electoral Commission (EC) of Ghana has announced that the Limited Voters’ Registration will start on Monday, June 17, 2019.
A statement signed by the EC’s Commissioner said the exercise will end on Sunday, July 7, 2019.
The Limited Voters’ Registration was originally scheduled to begin on June 7 and end on June 27 but was a Ghanaian citizen, Umar Ayuba sued the EC over the exercise forcing it to be halted.
He filed the suit challenging the decision by the EC to hold the registration in its district offices and some selected electoral areas.
According to him, the plaintiff, the directive by the EC is without legal basis and hence unconstitutional.
But the Supreme Court struck out the case and gave the EC green light to hold the exercise.
The EC boss in the statement said: “The Electoral Commission announces for the information of the general public that the Limited Voters Registration Exercise will now take place from Monday, 17th June 2019 to Sunday, 7th July 2019.’’
