Some members of the main opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) from the Asawase constituency, have picked the nomination form for former President John Dramani Mahama to enable him contest the presidential primary.
The form from what rainbowradioonline.com has gathered was picked on Monday morning by the NDC members.
The members who picked the form paid GHc20, 000 as cost for the form.
Some individuals have pledged to support Mr Mahama to raise the GHc400, 000 filing fee.
About 96 Minority MPs have also promised to help the former president raise the money for his filing fee.
But eight other aspirants have called on the party to reduce the cost to GHc100, 000.
Some of them including Alban Bagbin has hinted of pulling out of the race should the cost be maintained.
“I will not pick the form and I will not file and I will make it known that it is not because I cannot mobilse” he said.
All male flag bearer aspirants of the party are to pay GH₵400,000 while female aspirants (so far none has declared interest) are to pay GHȻ200,000 while persons with disability aspiring to the same position are to pay GH₵150,000.
In a related development, former President Jerry John Rawlings has expressed concern about the whopping increase in the filing fee for the presidential primary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and called on the party’s National Executive Committee to take a second look at the decision.
The Founder of the NDC cautioned that certain actions or decisions could either be a reflection of the circumstances of the NDC’s birth or “mark a departure from where we are coming from as a party”.
“I doubt if anyone of us who has served with integrity, relying on our salaries can raise these filing fees unless we engaged in some unethical behaviour while in office; Unless we abused or misused our positions during our tenure,” the Founder said.
