A middle aged man who is yet to be identified has attempted suicide in the public gallery of Parliament today [Thursday].
It remain unclear what might have led to his decision to commit suicide in Ghana’s legislative public gallery.
Rainbow Radio’s Parliamentary correspondent Afia Kwarteng told rainbowradioonline.com that the man walked into the parliamentary gallery where he was watching proceedings for the day.
Information available to rainbowradioonline.com indicates that he has been visiting the gallery to meet his Member of Parliament for Kwesimintsim on regular basis.
But he met his absence today [Thursday]. The man after watching g proceedings allegedly removed the bandage which was covering his wounds on the hand to attempt the suicide.
However, he failed in his attempt and was apprehended by the security stationed in the House.
When caught by the parliamentary security he was heard shouting ‘’I will kill myself. I want to kill myself. Mr. Joseph Mensah I want to kill myself’’.
One of the security stationed in the House was also heard saying ‘’If want to kill yourself go home and do that. You cannot kill yourself in Parliament.
The man was seen wearing a t-shirt with the photo and inscription ‘’VOTE JOE MENSAH AS MP FOR KWESIMINTSIM’’.
He has since been handed over to the police for further probe into the matter.
