Although he is yet to graduate from fashion school, Chief Executive Officer (CEO), for Maayase Clothing, Peter Asante aka Mayaase Ghana, has already designed for popular Ghanaian and award winning actor, Prince David Osei, controversial television personality and actress Valentina Agyeiwaa popularly known as Afia Schwazzneggar among others.
The multi-talented designer and creative thinker, was forced to pursue a science course by his parents but his desire for fashion designing never died and has pursued same despite the opposition he had in the past.
In an exclusive interview with rainbowradioonline.com, Mayaase Ghana said he was inspired by the mum who was a seamstress, who did so well in her field.
He recently staged a fashion show where he displayed some of his designs under the brand names Shangoza and Shandee.
In explaining the rationale behind his designs he disclosed to this website that his inspiration came from the shape a bell.
So you could see that the way a bell looks like reflected in the way I designed my sleeves, he said.
The outfit he said was also inspired by the cedi tower in the capital Accra.
When asked where he sees himself in the next few years, Mayaase Ghana said, ‘’ I see myself as a global fashion designer in some few years to come. The recommendations I am receiving tells me the future is getting exciting,’’ he added.
He described his personality as an open minded and very outspoken.
Mayaase Ghana is 26 years old and a student at Valley View University where is pursuing business administration and majoring in marketing aside his fashion education.
In his view, combining two schools at the same time has been okay for him.
He is studying fashion and designing at Riohs Originate Fashion school in Accra, one of the top most fashion designing schools in the country.
He attended Oda Secondary School where he studied science. He said, science wasn’t my thing but had to do it for mum and dad.
He was however sad that the mum could not witness the success he is chalking as a designer because of the inspiration he picked from her.
‘’Unfortunately my mum passed on after my secondary education. So I was admitted at Valley View University. Right at level 100, I would go to a tailor to learn some basic fashion skills every day. Three years down the line, I have personally enrolled into a fashion school. I now feel happy pursuing what sparked my interest in this world,’’ he stated.
He was the first to start the late afternoon show with Berla Mundi on GHOne TV.
