The National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Samuel Ofosu Ampofo has denied knowledge of the recent kidnappings on-going in the country saying he is therefore looking up to God.
Speaking at a thanksgiving service to celebrate the 27 years anniversary of the NDC, the embattled officer said he was innocent of the charges, adding he was confident God will redeem him.
“My hands are clean and my heart is clean. The battle is not for me. The battle is the Lord’s and the Lord will win it for me,” he said.
An alleged leaked tape of the NDC officer which he has denied knowledge of had him reportedly saying among other things that “…Nobody has slept in his house. They even went to attack traders [and] some Imams had to come and plead for them. People will also start capturing your mothers and fathers and keeping them hostage until you show yourself up. So we need to go back quickly to the drawing board and strategise.’’
Mr. Ofosu Ampofo is standing trial over a leaked tape in which a voice purported to be his is heard calling for political kidnappings and assassinations of some persons in Ghana.
There has been series of kidnappings since the leaked tape surfaced. Three girls from Takoradi in the Western Region have remained in captivity since they were kidnapped some months ago.
An Indian businessman was kidnapped in Kumasi some weeks ago.
And recently, two Canadian women were kidnapped in Kumasi as well.
They [Canadians] have since been rescued.
But reacting to these allegations, the NDC chairman said, “Recently I prayed and cried and I asked ‘God if you knew this was going to be my lot why did you allow me to win this election?’ But the Lord asked me to go back and read Exodus. And read what Moses went through. And he told me that the Egyptians that you see today tomorrow you will see them no more. Have the belief and confidence that the Almighty God that we serve will redeem me and his name will be glorified.”
He ended his brief speech at the Royal House Chapel International with a promise that the NDC will win the 2020 polls despite the party’s current challenges.
“As we journey into 2020, we have no strength to fight, we have not a weapon to fight but we believe that the Captain of Israel, our Lord Jesus Christ, will be the leader of our army and victory will surely be ours,” he prophesied.
