No show as NDC chair returns to CID, asked to return on June 19

The Criminal Investigations Department (CID) failed to attend to the National Chairman of the opposition Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr. Samuel Ofosu Ampofo although he was asked to report to the headquarters as part of his bail conditions after his arrest on Monday.

Rainbow Radio’s Senior Report Daniel Asuku who was at the headquarters reported that the officials at the CID told Mr. Ampofo he could not be attended to because the Forensic Unit had no one to attend to him.

The NDC chairman was on Tuesday arrested over the recent kidnappings and arsons in the country.

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) had earlier raised alarm that Government was making moves to arrest its National Chairman.

According to the opposition party, it (NDC) had learnt that the government, using the security agencies, has obtained a court warrant in the past few days for the arrest of our national Chairman, Hon. Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo.”

The NDC made this known in a statement issued on Sunday, June 9, 2019, and signed by its Director of Communications, Kakra Essamuah.

Mr. Ofosu Ampofo is standing trial over a leaked tape in which a voice purported to be his is heard calling for political kidnappings and assassinations of some persons in Ghana.

He was subsequently granted bail after being held for over 5 hours and asked to return today [Thursday].

But he has been asked to return on Wednesday June 19, 2019.

He was in the company of his legal team led by lawyer Abraham Amaliba and some party executives.

Supporters of the party were also present at the CID headquarters to show their solidarity to the embattled chairman.
