The National Chairman of the main opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Samuel Ofosu Ampofo, has honoured the invitation he was given by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) over the alleged leaked tape which the police say has security implications.
Some big shots in the party accompanied the NDC officer to the CID headquarters today [Monday].
The NDC Chairman is at the CID office for questioning following the circulation of a leaked audio tape which he is alleged of making certain statements purported to have security implications.
The likes of Tony Lithur, Ibraham Amaliba, Victor Adawudu, Hannah Bissiw, NDC Communications Director, Sammy Gyamfi, former Attorney General, Marietta Brew Appiah-Oppong among other heavy weights in the party were spotted with Mr. Ampofo in photos shared by journalist Sammy Ablordepey.
The police had hinted of arresting the NDC officer through a court warrant.
The Deputy Director-General of the Police Criminal Investigation Department (CID), Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Mr George Tweneboah, disclosed this in an interview with the Daily Graphic on Friday.
Mr Ofosu-Ampofo was expected to appear before the CID last Thursday after the police had invited him to speak to a leaked audio recording that allegedly had him speaking about several issues, including attacks on the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission and the Chairman of the Peace Council, Most Rev. Prof. Emmanuel Asante.
The CID issued a press statement last Wednesday explaining that they had invited the NDC national chairman to assist the police with investigations into a leaked audio recording, but his lawyers said their client did not receive any official invitation until late afternoon last Thursday.
