The Public Accounts Committee of Parliament (PAC) has summoned a former Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Ghana Trade Fair Company (GTFC) Limited, Dr Ebenezer Erasmus Okpoti Koney, to appear before the committee to answer questions in how thieves broke into his office to steal payment vouchers totalling about GH¢300,000.
Rainbow Radio’s parliamentary correspondent Afia Kwarteng reported that the former CEO is to appear before the committee together with his former accountant in whose office the vouchers were allegedly stolen.
She said Chairmqn of the of PAC, Mr James Avedzi, gave the order Tuesday when the current CEO of the company, Dr Agnes Adu, appeared before the committee to respond to queries raised in the 2016 Auditor General’s report about the centre.
At the sitting today, Dr. Adu PAC that during the auditing of the company in 2014, the auditors could not trace the payment vouchers amounting to GH¢300,000.
According to her, the auditors were told the vouchers were stolen.
However, the committee’s chair Mr Avedzi said he was unsatisfied by the information given and went further to ask that the former CEO and his accountant appear before PAC to answer questions.
She further told PAC that until she tool over on 2017, the company was mismanaged for many years.
The mismanagement she disclosed led to serious financial crisis, a situation that led to the disconnection of electricity due to indebtedness and salary arrears for 18 months.
