President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has given the strongest assurance that normalcy will soon return to Ghana’s football.
Ghanaians he said are yearning to see the game of football be restored after the expose by Anas Aremeyaw Anas brought the foundation of Ghana football down.
In his ’State of Nation Address on Thursday February 21, 2019, the president said, ‘’The Ghanaian people are also expectant of a return to normalcy of all football-related activities as soon as possible, and the Normalisation Committee is working to ensure that they meet the March deadline.’’
On sports infrastructure, the president said, ‘’we have begun renovating and upgrading our sporting infrastructure such as the Accra and Cape Coast Sports Stadia, and the Azumah Nelson Sports Complex in Kaneshie, and a complete refurbishment of sports facilities across the country.’’
Funds he disclosed have been released for the completion of the University of Ghana Sports Stadium, started by the Kufour-led NPP government, but abandoned soon after 2008.’’
The Normalisation Committee was tasked to run the GFA’s daily affairs.
They were also tasked to review the GFA statutes to ensure compliance with the requirements of FIFA and CAF, particularly art. 15 of the FIFA Statutes and once the GFA statutes meet the requirements of FIFA and CAF, to organize and conduct elections of a GFA executive committee on the basis of the revised GFA statutes.
The specified period of time during which the normalization committee shall perform its functions shall expire when all of the above-mentioned tasks have been properly fulfilled, but by no later than 31 March 2019.
