General Secretary of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, has taken a swipe at the Director-General of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID), COP Tiwaa Addo-Danquah, describing her as a politically influenced officer.
The chief scribe of the umbrella family told host of Frontline on Rainbow Radio 87.5Fm Kwabena Agyapong that the CID boss has not shown any professionalism in line of her duty.
He disclosed to the host when tension started rising at the police headquarters and party supporters stormed the area, he had to issue a statement to calm tempers down because they were in the process of securing a bail for chairman Ofosu-Ampofo.
But the CID boss Tiwaa Addo-Danquah asked his men to come tell us that she wanted to issue a statement to challenge the NDC’s statement.
‘’I was shocked to hear that. I then asked if she was the Women Organizer for the NPP for her to issue a statement to counter that of the NDC. At this point, the legal team became furious over the statement by the CID boss. In my view, the CID boss is behaving like a puppet with strings being pulled by government. She is behaving like a politician and not a professional police officer.’’ He added.
Mr. Nketiah described the interrogation of Mr. Ofosu-Ampofo as laughable because ‘’they brought in a photo of someone masked claiming that the individual had accused him [Ofosu-Ampofo] of being the one behind the recent fire outbreaks in the Kumasi central market. They also claimed that Mr. Ofosu-Ampofo was behind the recent kidnappings in the country.
‘’We were shocked at these allegations and claims by the police. We asked why the police service has been reduced to such ridicule.’’
Mr. Nketiah said he was worried the police administration was being used to execute a political agenda with the professional aspect of their work left to the gutters
He described the charges as ridiculous as strange.
Mr. Samuel Ofosu Ampofo has been granted bail having been arrested by te Police Tuesday.
He is due to honour another invitation on Thursday, June 13, 2019.
A statement from the police said: “The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) is investigating various acts of kidnapping and causing unlawful damage in which credible and actionable intelligence makes Mr. Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo, the National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), a suspect.”
The arrest comes weeks after Mr. Ofosu-Ampofo refused to honour an invitation by the Police CID to report at the headquarters of the investigative body.
