Delegates of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Ayawaso West Wuogon constituency have elected the widow of late Emmanuel Kyeremanteng Agyarko, Lydia Alhassan as the candidate for the upcoming by-election.
She won by securing 441 votes out of 672 total ballots cast during the primary at the Dzorwulu JHS.
She bear her contenders Victoria Esinam Ansah Offei, Maame Yaa Aboagye, Samuel Amankwah and Ato Williams who polled 1, 76, 19 and 131 votes respectively.
Two votes were rejected out of the total of the
672 ballots cast.
In her speech, Lydia Alhassan expressed optimism that the party will retain the seat come January 31, 2019.
“We are in this together. The campaigning begins from today. Let us all put ourselves together and go out there and face Delali Brimpong. We have done it before, we can do it again. We are retaining this seat together.”
The seat became vacant following the passing of the Member of Parliament for the area, Emmanuel Kyeremanteng Agyarko, on Wednesday, November 21.
