The head of the Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) in Winneba DSP Charles Obiri, has appealed to drivers to be disciplined and abide by all road regulations as we approach the festive season to help save lives.
He admonished them to avoid over speeding, overtaking, drunk driving and other unlawful road practices in order to help reduce the number road accidents this festive season.
According to him, the police in Winneba have adopted measures to help reduce road accidents and have stressed the need for drivers to assist the police in ensuring an accident free season.
He asked drivers to keep their vehicles in good condition, regularly check lights, breaks, steering, tyres, direction indicators, regularly clean windscreen and windows and always wear seatbelts.
Drivers he said must know at all times that when they are behind the steering wheel, they hold the lives of other people in their hands and, must therefore be responsible.
In his view, ensuring an accident-free Christmas cannot be the preserve or responsibility of any single person but a collective responsibility.
