Workers at Ghana Bauxite Mine at Awaso on rampage, burn company cars

Reports trickling in indicate that workers at Ghana Bauxite Mine at Awaso in the Western Region have demonstrated again over poor working conditions.

The workers according to Rainbow Radio’s Sir Joe went on rampage burning office cars and stalling vehicular movement at the mine.

According to the group leader of the aggrieved workers, some of them have worked for about 8 years at the company but there has been no increment in their salaries.

Issahaku Yakubu lamented that their salaries are always delayed and even the money they take home,  “is too small and cannot sustain them and their families”.

He further disclosed that the company has refused to register them under the Social Security and Insurance Trust (SSNIT)

He said the team has consistently sent a delegation to Accra to have their concerns addressed but all to no avail.

They have therefore hinted they will continue with the demonstration until their concerns have been addressed.
