PRESS RELEASE:

EC CONIVING WITH NPP TO RIG NORTHERN REGION 2020 GENERAL ELECTIONS RESULTS IN FAVOUR OF NPP

The Electoral commission of Northern Region has kept figures purported to be the results of presidential elections in the zabzugu constituency.

The collation of the supposed figures is claimed to have been done at the regional EC office in Tamale without the knowledge and representation of NDC Agents.

Earlier on December 8, the Regional EC collated results for only 15 constituencies and closed for collation to resume for today at 8am.

Contrary to the agreement, we resumed this morning only for results of all the constituencies provided before the starting time for the day. As early as 6am, the regional EC Director started calling on the NDC Regional Director of Elections to sign the summary declaration sheet for transmission to EC head office in Accra.

NDC resisted and called for the constituency collation sheet as well the summary before signing but the EC’s outfit was unable to provide the documents requested rather insisting on political parties to sign.

The NPP on the other hand has brought ordinary members of NPP to sign the Regional Declaration sheet on behalf of those parties. Checks from the concerned political parties indicates that they are unaware and has not authorize any of their members to sign such documents.

It should be noted that only 40 polling stations results sheets were collated in Zabzugu for presidential. To the surprise of everyone, a military vehicle came with DCE of Zabzugu and the NPP parliamentary candidate who is also the deputy Northern Regional Minister and conveyed the electoral materials with the District EC officer for Zabzugu for the illegality in Tamale. However, there was no collation of parliamentary results in Zabzugu.

We therefore state emphatically that the NDC will not accept this illegality called results and shall resist this attempt of rigging the 2020 election.
