Sustainable Development expert Michael Ebo Amoah has opined that the controversies surrounding the declaration by the Electoral Commission (EC) make it work incomplete.
He said it would be prudent to be accurate in declaring the results than to rush to declare results that could generate mistrust and controversies.
According to him, the people going to the polling station to cast their ballot is not the problem but rather, for an election to be successful, you would have to look at the process before, during, and after the polls.
He told Kwabena Agyapong on Frontline on Rainbow Radio 87.5Fm that we cannot describe the polls as successful due to the controversies surrounding them.
He said after the polls, it has emerged that the figures keep changing, and as to whether it is significant to change the results it puts a lot of credibility issues on the entire elections.
”Per what is going on, if it were to be in a country that does not understand democracy, peace, and stability, Ghana would have found itself in a different way. So the work of the EC is incomplete. The figures on the website of the EC and their social media platforms will put a little bit of credibility on the claims by the NDC that the polls have not been fair.”
He further explained that per what has happened, if the issue goes to court, the EC would have a lot to answer.
He said although the EC has done well in organising the elections, there are controversies that must be addressed.
