NDC identifies over voting, ballot stuffing, voting without verification as irregularities on Election Day

December 17, 2020

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has presented what it has termed as it’s proof to support their allegations of a rigged election.

The party told journalists today that after auditing the results of the election, it found out that there were several irregularities in the figures given out by the Electoral Commission(EC).

National Communication Officer of the NDC Sammy Gyamfi said the party jas discovered over voting, ballot stuffing, and failure by the EC to capture the number of verified voters on the face of the pink sheets used for the elections.

Sammy Gyamfi alleged that there were widespread cases of padding results in favour of the NPP and its Presidential Candidate, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

According to him, some places including Ejisu Constituency, Antwima Kwanwoma, Akrofuom, Antwima Nwabiagya North and Manhyia North, votes for President Akufo-Addo’s votes were increased whereas that of John Mahama were reduced.

He specifically mentioned Sunyani West, SDA Primary school Chra 1, where 468 ballots were issued, 466 votes were cast, but there were 49 names on the voters register.

He said the polling station was given 60 ballot papers but 466 persons voted and Akufo-Addo won there.

He alleged the EC created an avenue for the NPP to rig the polls and the NDC on Election Day caught some NPP members of the NPP having already thumbprinted ballot papers which had the EC’s validation stamps.

“NPP People were caught with bags full of already thumb printed ballot papers and therefore there was ballot staffing,” he said.

Sammy Gyamfi also said the absence of persons verified either manually or by verification of faces is also one of the reasons the NDC believes the election was rigged.

He said these irregularities were identified in over 10,000 polling stations and when rectified, it will push the declared results into a second round.
