President Akufo-Addo has reiterated that he was validly elected through a credible and transparent election on December 7, 2020, contrary to claims by his opponent former President John Dramani Mahama that the polls were rigged.
In his last State of the Nation Address on January 5, 2020, the president said he does not doubt his validity.
The president said he was thankful to the Ghanaian people and God Almighty for the opportunity given to govern the country for four more years.
In his view, Ghanaians have spoken and given the two major parties an almost equal size of the House and they have no choice but to work with the consequences of the desires of the people.
President Akufo-Addo said he was thankful to have been given a clear mandate to govern the country for another term to consolidate the gains he has made.
”The constitution demands that we go to the people after four years to ask for another mandate and we must listen to the voice of the people. I said during the election campaign that it was my passionate view that I should only be president in a fairly conducted election which I believe in all sincerity the election of 7th December was.”
He says it is good for the nation that Former President John Mahama chose the Supreme Court as an alternative to contest the 2020 general election results.
He said it is good for the nation that Mahama chose the legal path instead of the pockets of violence that he alleged were orchestrated by supporters of the NDC.
