The opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has proposed the name of Second Deputy Speaker Alban Bagbin for the Speaker for the 8th Parliament.
The decision was taken after the party held an Executive Meeting today, Tuesday, January 5, 2021.
The party insists they have won the majority seats in parliament and has since directed their MPs to hold themselves as the majority in Parliament.
The NDC has also maintained the current leadership in Parliament for the next House.
This means that Haruna Iddrisu will remain as leader for the caucus of the NDC.
His deputy James Clutse Averdzi has also been maintained.
Muntaka Mubarak, the Asawase MP will also be retained as Chief Whip.
Mr. Ibrahim Ahmed has also been retained as the 1st Deputy Minority Chief Whip and Comfort Doyoe Cudjoe remaining as the 2nd Deputy.
However, her position would be occupied by Dr. Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings, the MP for Klottey-Korley pending the outcome of the presidential election petition at the Supreme Court.
