The Ministry of Education in collaboration with Zoomlion Ghana Limited has begun the disinfection of all tertiary schools across the country.
As part of the exercise, some 11 tertiary institutions in the Central Region have benefited from the disinfection exercise.
The exercise follows the directive from President Akufo Addo for schools from Kindergarten to the tertiary level to reopen starting from the 15th of January, 2021,
The exercise is aimed at curbing the spread of the deadly Covid-19 pandemic as students return to school.
The exercise is covering both public and private institutions in the region including universities, nursing training colleges, Colleges of Education, Skills Development Institutions, among several others.
Tertiary Institutions that benefited from day one of the exercise included, the University of Cape Coast, Ola College of Education, Cape Coast Technical University, and Komenda College of Education.
The rest are Perez University, University College of Education-Winneba, Winneba Public Health School, Assin Fosu College of Education, and the Cape Coast Nursing Training College.
Speaking to the media, Mr. Robert Christian Anyeme, the Central regional Public Health Officer of Zoomlion said the exercise will last for three days.
He said it will benefit both public and private schools.
He assured Ghanaians the company has acquired enough logistics for the disinfection exercise.
He indicated that some 1,500 operators have been deployed across the region for the exercise.
He further revealed the company will continue to work with the government to continue with the disinfection exercise on regular basis.
On his part, the Public Relations Officer for UCC, Major Kofi Baah Bentum (rtd) disclosed the school has put in place all the mechanisms to ensure students and staff comply with the safety protocols.
He said they have also enhanced public education and awareness to keep students and their staff informed about the virus.
The school he added has a 120-bed capacity hospital it will use to manage any emergency in the school.
The school has also developed installations to manage minor cases before referrals are made to the hospital, he said.
He commended the company for its work and hinted at future collaborations.
Some 8,000 students are expected back in school with about 800 of them prepared to be lectured at the Nduom School of Business.
The school he stated will run a hybrid system including face to face interactions and online teaching and learning.
