The Supreme Court has granted a request by former President John Dramani Mahama for a LIVE Telecast of the Election Petition hearing.
The apex court is set to begin sitting in the matter today (Thursday, January 14, 2021) begin hearings on the presidential election petition brought before it by the National Democratic Congress’ (NDC) 2020 flagbearer John Mahama.
The former president is praying the court to annul the election results and order a run-off between himself and the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP’s) Nana Akufo-Addo because they both could not garner the required votes to emerge a winner.
The President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has through his lawyers also filed his response describing the petition as incompetent.
According to him, the petition does not challenge the validity of the election held in 38,622 polling stations across the country.
They also claim the allegations of vote padding involving some 6,622 votes is empty and insignificant to materially affect the outcome of the election.
The respondents have, therefore, served notice of an initial objection to being raised and asking the apex court to dismiss the petition and are calling for a date to be fixed for the legal arguments.
