The United Press for Development Network (UPDN) has said the death of Ahmed Hussein-Suale is still fresh on the minds of Ghanaians.
A statement issued by UPDN indicated that the death of the investigative journalist was a dastardly act.
According to them, it is unfortunate that the police have been unsuccessful and lacking evidence to unravel and punish persons behind the killing.
They have therefore called on the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), the Criminal Investigations Department, and President Akufo-Addo to take steps in bringing finality to the case.
“We believe that, the culture of silence where journalists, CSO’s and citizens are unable to speak freely without the fear of been assaulted, dehumanized, murdered or criminalized has regrettably returned in several shapes or forms.”
The press provides the platform for a multiplicity of voices to be heard and reflects society and no journalist or anyone must be intimidated, brutalized or killed as a result of his/her work.
It is shocking that less effort is made to address this infamous canker bedeviling our beloved country.
The eroding press freedom credential of the Republic of Ghana has dire consequence on our young democracy and deserves everyone’s attention immediately.
UPDN is by this press statement, indicating that its readiness to host the second edition of the “Ahmed Suale Press Freedom Memorial Lecture”).
