The Speaker of Parliament has stated firmly that there’s no Majority and Minority in the 8th Parliament and so it won’t be business as usual.
Rt. Hon. Alban Bagbin welcoming MPs to their 2nd Sitting of the 1st Meeting of the 8th Parliament said the NDC and NPP have equal seats with one independent candidate.
This he said is how Ghanaians want them to work hence there would be no Majority and Minority.
The Speaker borrowing portions of President Akufo-Addo’s last State of the Nation Address in 2020 ascribed to it saying quote and unquote:
“The good people of Ghana have spoken and given Parliament an almost equal strength on both sides of the House; we have no choice but to work with the consequences of the desires of the people.
The House would have to be more accommodating of each other’s views, and, probably, devise new ways of conducting its affairs in the interest of the good governance of our people.”
The Speaker added Ghanaians sent a clear message to the political class and denied both the NDC and NPP single-party control of the legislative branch.
He said this is a call for them to chart a new path and embark on new ways of transacting parliamentary business.
He advised the leaders of the House to smoothen any bottlenecks that would affect their work.
