President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has announced that Ghana jas recorded the new strain of the covid-19 virus.
According to him, the new strain was recorded at the Kotoka International Airport.
Although he failed to disclose the number of persons affected, the president said they have been isolated and being monitored.
In his 22nd national address on what the government is doing to manage the crisis, the president said efforts are being made to check if the new strain has spread further.
The President who was worried warned he would be forced to reintroduce the restrictions including lockdown should the active cases keep rising.
So far, 352 persons have died from the virus with our cases now rising above 1,900.
He further warned the police and other agencies have been instructed to enforce the compulsory wearing of facemasks in public places.
Meanwhile, all clubs, pubs, cinemas are to be remained closed until further notice.
Persons who would violate the law would be severely punished, he added.
Thirty-three persons are currently in critical conditions.
