The National Democratic Congress(NDC) Caucus in Parliament has asked for copies of the handing over notes presented to the Administrator-General by President Akufo-Addo’s appointees.
Leader of the side, Haruna Iddrisu addressing a press conference on Tuesday, January 19, 2021, said their request is in line with the Presidential (Transition) Act, 2012 (Act 845).
He explained that the law enjoins the Administrator-General to make available to the person elected as President the original copies of the handing-over notes, a copy to parliament, the Chief Justice, and other institutions.
He told journalists that parliament does not have copies of the handing over notes.
The Tamale South MP stated the notes will assist members of the appointments committee to properly scrutinize President Akufo-Addo’s new ministers.
According to the leader, section 6 of the Presidential (Transition) Act, 2012 (Act 845) requires that the Government prepare to hand over notes 30 days to the Presidential Election.
“Has that been complied with? I doubt! ” He questioned
He emphatically stated per Section 7 of Act 845 requires the Administrator-General to make available to the person elected as President the original copies of the handing-over notes: (2) Of the five other copies, (a) the Administrator-General shall retain one copy, and (b) one copy shall be sent respectively to (i) Parliament, (ii) the Chief Justice, iii) the Council of State, and (iv) the Public Records and Archives Administration Department.
