The Chief Executive Officer of Accra Great Olympics Olubio Commodore has slammed and accused the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC) of sponsoring Karela FC, a limited liability company.
Speaking to Isaac Worlanyo Wallace on Rainbow Sports, he said it is shocking and unfortunate for a state company to use state resources to sponsor a private club.
According to him, the company should rather allocate the resources to the Ghana Football Association (GFA) so every club would benefit.
The GNPC he noted had withdrawn their sponsorship for the Black Stars and promised never to sponsor them again.
They had told Ghanaians they would channel their sponsorship to the Ministry of Youth and Sports so it would help sports in general.
He stressed GNPC is sponsoring a limited liability company in the league meanwhile they told Ghanaians that they won’t sponsor the Black Stars again but they will rather give the money or sponsorship to the youth and sports ministry so that every club here in Ghana will benefit from it. GNPC is a state-owned company and so why are they sponsoring a club?”
The CEO expressed his disappointment demanding answers as to why it is sponsoring a limited liability company like Karela.
“The social corporate responsibility must be for the community. Why has the Bank of Ghana not supported Accra Hearts of Oak because of the club in the Greater Accra Region? This is fair to the Ghanaian sports fraternity. We need to take up the matter and probe it. If GNPC has got money, they need to bring to the GFA, so all clubs will benefit from it.”
