Our MCE awarding school feeding contracts to girlfriends-Caterers

January 27, 2021

Some of the school feeding caterers in the Akuapem North of the Eastern region have been sacked.

They have alleged that the MCE of Akuapem North Municipal Assembly Hon. Asiedu and MP for Akuapem North constituency, are the ones who terminated their contracts.

Rainbow Radio’s Fiifi Ankomah who followed the story discovered that they were sacked for failing to take an active part in the 2020 general elections and so campaign for Hon. Nana Dokua Asiamah.

Speaking to Kwabena Agyapong, one of the affected caterers alleged that their contracts were terminated and rewarded to the girlfriends, family, and friends of the MCE and MP.

She also expressed worry that they were not informed about the termination and some of them wasted money in cooking and when they got to the schools to distribute the food, other caterers have been given the contract.

The caterer denied claims that they failed to join the campaign in 2020.

“They have awarded the contracts to their girlfriends, friends, cronies, and family. This is not fair. We were not informed about the termination of our contracts.”

Meanwhile, the School Feeding Programme says it has not sanctioned the termination of contracts.

A statement issued by the Programme said: “We wish to state emphatically that management of GSFP and MoGCSP have not sanctioned or approved the reallocation of beneficiary schools to any caterer or group of caterers for this new academic year. We reiterate that we have not authorized or engaged in any arrangement with any assembly, party executives, and Regional Coordinators to reallocate or change schools for caterers for the 2020/2021 academic year.

We, therefore, direct and caution all caterers nationwide not to get themselves involved in any arrangement purporting to reallocate them schools. As schools reopen for the commencement of 2020/2021academic year, all GSFP caterers must continue to cook for the schools they have been originally allocated to serve per their contract.

Caterers who do not adhere to these directives and proceed to cook for new schools other than the ones originally assigned them; do so at this own risk, GSFP would not pay any caterer for any unauthorized service rendered.

It is pertinent to note that, it is only the GSFP National Secretariat, which has the sole mandate and authority to allocate and reallocate beneficiary schools.

We call on all involved in this unlawful act to desist from it, as the practice would undermine the successful implementation and sustainability of the programme.”
