Education Minister-designate Dr. Yaw Adutwum has announced before the vetting committee that the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission Law that was passed by Parliament has abolished affiliations of all new private tertiary institutions.
Existing private institutions have been given a maximum of five years to go through the process of being Chartered.
He disclosed this when he was asked by MP for Odododiodoo, Nii Lante Vanderpuye what he would do to stop the exorbitant affiliation and registration fees charged by private tertiary institutions.
He said when he is approved, he will do whatever it takes to ensure that we implement the Tertiary Education Commission Law.
He also promised to expedite the processes involved for private tertiary institutions to receive their Charter.
When asked if he was aware some schools were charging in dollars, he said he was aware of the fees being charged but not the denomination.
He was asked to take note because that was a breach of the laws of Ghana.
