The Minister-designate for Gender, Children and Social Protection Sarah Adwoa Safo, has opined the activities of Lesbians, Gays, Bisexuals, Transgenders, and the Queer groups are criminal and should not be entertained.
The private legal practitioner and human rights advocate said the activity of the LGBT is criminal and against the cultural values of Ghana, and therefore, she would not support it.
The Member of Parliament for Bawku Central Mahama Ayatiga asked whether she would provide social protection for such individuals.
In her answer, the nominee said the criminality of LGBT is non-negotiable.
Section 104 of the Criminal Code she noted makes LGBT criminal and prohibited another person from having natural canal knowledge with another person.
She said our norms and values as Ghanaians frown upon these practices and for her, she would not support it.
”The issue of LGBT is an issue which when mentioned creates some form of controversies but what I want to say is that our laws are clear on such practices. So on the issue of the criminality of LGBT is non-negotiable and our cultural practices also frown on it and these are two strong stands on the matter and this is what I stand for.”
On the issue of social protection for the LGBT community, the nominee said her answer was clear and insisted LGBT is criminal and against our values.
