Mahama will be Prez Candidate for NDC in 2024-Communicator

February 24, 2021

Former National Democratic Congress (NDC) Parliamentary aspirant for Nkwanta South, Richard Manuribe, has opined that the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) would have to file former President John Dramani Mahama as the presidential candidate for 2024.

Speaking on Frontline on Rainbow Radio 87.5Fm, he indicated that the party expects the judgement of the election petition to go in their favour for the former president to serve his final four-year term.

Responding to the proceedings in the election petition hearing he suggested the petitioner and his lawyers managed to present their case before the court and are hopeful the judgement will go in their favour.

He, however, noted should the ruling no go as planned, they would have no option, than to present Mr. Mahama as the candidate for 2024.

He insisted there is no other person in the party who is marketable than Mr. Mahama hence it would be the best decision for delegates of the party to elect him [Mahama] as a candidate.

The Supreme Court has fixed Thursday, March 4, 2021, as the judgement day for the 2020 presidential election petition.

Mr. Mahama filed his closing address as ordered by the Supreme Court on Monday, February 23, 2021.

The address was filed by the lawyers of the petitioner and this means the Supreme Court can give judgment on the petition on March 4, 2021.

The Respondents, Electoral Commission (EC), and Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo filed theirs on February 17, 2021.

The petitioner is his closing address to the Supreme Court said the evidence on record including the EC’s own declaration on December 9 clearly showed that no candidate obtained more than 50 per cent of the valid votes cast to be declared President-elect as prescribed by Article 63 (3) of the 1992 Constitution.
